Square-shaped hay bales are found in two sizes small and large. Small square hay bales can easily be handled manually and large square hay bales and round-shaped hay bales are not handled manually rather they are handled by tractors with lifters. On average hay bales can weigh between 40 pounds or 18 kg to 2000 pounds or 907 kg. However, a standard square two-string hay bale can weigh around 40 to 75 pounds or 18 kg to 34 kg on average. And a standard square three-string hay bale can weigh 100 to 140 pounds or 45 kg to 63 kg. On average, a standard smaller round hay bale can weigh 350 pounds to 600 pounds or 159 kg to 272 kg and a standard large round hay bale can weigh 1200 pounds to 1800 pounds or 544 kg to 816 kg or more. The weight of these hay bales can vary due to many factors like size, density, moisture level etc.

Due to factors like demand, availability, quality of the hay and other things prices of a bale of hay can vary. Also across the USA, prices will be affected statewide. On average a good quality, small square bale of hay can cost around $120 to $160 per ton and a large square bale of hay can cost $130 to $170 per ton.
